This Audi Q3 wouldn’t start, with no obvious cause.
After carrying out an in-depth diagnostic assessment, I identified a camshaft/crankshaft correlation fault, indicating a possible engine timing issue.
Further investigation confirmed the engine timing was out. On stripping the engine down, I found the front crankshaft seal housing had cracked, allowing engine oil to contaminate the timing belt. This had caused the belt to lose its correct timing, preventing the engine from starting.
The repair included:
- In-depth diagnostic assessment
- Engine timing checked and fault confirmed
- Cracked front crankshaft seal housing replaced
- New crankshaft oil seal fitted
- Timing belt and water pump replaced
- Engine timing correctly set and verified
- Final testing carried out to ensure the engine started and ran perfectly
